Forty-Two Billionaires in the U.S. Were Immigrants

Forbes magazine published its annual list in October 2016 of 400 of the wealthiest Americans. Within that list were 42 billionaires who were American immigrants. The net worth of these immigrants combined equaled around $250 billion. The report also showed that of the 42 wealthiest US immigrants, 40 of them were “self-made” billionaires. 37257994_mThe richest American immigrant is Sergey Brin, a naturalized American citizen who came to the U.S. when he was six years old. His family moved to the United States from Russia in 1979, and Brin went through school and then onto college where he received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maryland.

He then went on to Stanford University where he earned his Master’s Degree. Brin is the co-founder of Google, and according to Forbes magazine, he has a net worth of over $37 billion.

The Forbes report went on to say that while 6% of the 324 million Americans are naturalized citizens, they comprise over 10% of the 400 wealthiest people who live in the United States. The report goes on to say that the 42 American immigrants who are billionaires come from the countries of Vietnam, Argentina, the United Kingdom, Australia, Ukraine, Canada, Taiwan, China, South Korea, France, Russia, Germany, Pakistan, Greece, Burma, Hungary, Kenya, India, Italy, and Israel.
